Top 5 Hiking Trails in Los Angeles

Writer's picture: TriCanyon GroupTriCanyon Group

When people think of Los Angeles, their minds go straight to bright lights, movie stars and their glamorous lives. And although Hollywood is typically known for these things, you'd be surprised to learn that we have quite the number of hiking trails to help escape such a fast paced lifestyle! Below you'll find our list of the top 5 hiking trails in Los Angeles!

1. Runyon Canyon, Hollywood

Difficulty Time

Moderate 30-60 mins

Why we love it:

Runyon Canyon is perfect for those hikers that are not looking for a strenuous work out. Maybe you want to catch up with an old friend by staying active, take a quick jog before your real workout, or need to walk your little furry friend with a great view-- whatever the case may be, this hike is for you! We also have our own entrance from one of our properties, check it out here!

Why it's worth it:

This hiking trail has spectacular views from DTLA to Venice Beach. You may even run into a celebrity or two.

2. Eaton Canyon, Pasadena

Difficulty Time

Moderate 1-2 hours

Why we love it:

This trail is great for those looking for a little happy ending! After what should be a 45-60 min hike (unless you are stuck behind a large family with slow moving children) you will happen upon a beautiful water fall, perfect as your backdrop for your newest Instagram photos. (You'll find ours here). Be prepared to get your feet wet, even if you don't willingly go into the water!

Why it's worth it:

The 50 foot plunging waterfall is a good start.

3. Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook, Culver City

Difficulty Time

Intermediate 30 mins

Why we love it:

A destination for hikers south of the 10 freeway, the park’s main draw is the steps: more than 260 stone slabs that deliver you to the top in under 20 minutes.

Why it's worth it:

The north-gazing view of L.A.’s east-to-west spine-- not photographed as much as the south-facing view with the Hollywood Sign, but it is just as beautiful.

4. Franklin Canyon Park, Beverly HIlls

Difficulty Time

Intermediate 30 mins

Why we love it:

One of the lesser-known hiking spots, this peaceful getaway is perfect for a quiet stroll away from the hustle and bustle of Beverly Hills and Hollywood. The trail features miles of hiking trails, wildlife, and a 3-acre reservoir. Luckily, this is situated close to one of our properties. Check it out here!

Why it's worth it:

Franklin Canyon Reservoir and Heavenly Pond.

5. Solstice Canyon, Malibu

Difficulty Time

Intermediate 1-2 hours

Why we love it:

This sunny hike is unique because it houses the remains of an old burnt-down stone mansion. Be sure to take the stairs to head up the Rising Sun Trail for more of a challenge! Before you know it, you’ll be working your way down the shady descent toward waterfalls, shallow pools, and streams.

Why it's worth it:

“Tropical Terrace” and panoramic views of the Pacific.
